Ike and Tina Turner with the Ikettes (Ann Thomas, Paulette Parker, Pat Powdrill and Jean Brown) in 1968.
The Ikettes were a trio (sometimes quartet) of female backing vocalists for the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Despite their origins, the Ikettes became successful artists in their own right. They were first known as the Artettes, the backing group for Art Lassiter. In 1960, they became the Ikettes and sang on the Ike and Tina song “A Fool In Love.” In 1962, they recorded a hit for themselves with I’m Blue (The Gong-Gong Song). In 1966 the original Ikettes (Venetta Fields, Jessie Smith and Robbie Montgomery) left the Revue to form The Mirettes. They were replaced and throughout the years there were many different lineups of Ikettes.
